(For broader media coverage, please visit our website: http://www.forr-asz.uni-miskolc.hu/?p=mediatar)

The new equipment provides excellent opportunities to conduct experimental investigations on plasma-based surface treatment. With stringent EU environmental regulations, plasma technology is considered a viable and advanced alternative to wet chemical treatment methods, which tend to leave behind toxic chemical residuals. The operational parameters of the plasma jet are easy to control, the carrier gas is innocuous and the degradation/reaction products are easily removable. There is a wide range of flexible industrial applications for atmospheric and low-pressure plasma technology, e.g. the treatment of plastic surfaces prior to adhesive bonding, the surface activation and/or modification of metals, the preparation of protective coatings etc. – which justifies the need for targeted research.

A brief demonstration was made by Tamás Török, Prof. Dr. on the mode of operation and actual working performance of the plasma jet apparatus.

The press conference included the propagation of the Researchers’ Night organized by the University of Miskolc. Tamás Kékesi, Prof. Dr. (Vice Rector) displayed the so-called e-Beetle (electric car converted from a 1969 VW Beetle model) to the public.
